The Swedish pig producer Sörby Farm faced problems with feed fermentation in pipes affecting fodder uptake negatively. The solution was Anolytech’s sustainable system for disinfecting water without chemicals harmful to animals and humans.
At Sörby Farm near Västerås in Sweden, owner Magnus Jansson is running a large scale pig production operation. 6.000 piglets are produced each year, with 5.200 raised for slaughter.
Magnus is well aware of the potential environmental impact of his business, and anxious to act responsibly in line with United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for sustainable development:
– We aim at producing all fodder needed by ourselves. And we grow peas and other crops to keep the use of soy beans as low as possible.
Other indications of his climate awareness is the crop drying system installed in 2020. Like the rest of the farm, it is heated by self-produced wood chips. Moreover, Magnus have invested in two sets of solar cells.
Clean water for healthier pigs growing faster
Also the farms use of disinfectants has been influenced by the circular mindset. Use of chemicals harmful to animals and hu- man beings has been replaced by Anolytech ́s pH-optimized hypochlorous acid AnoDes, produced at the farm.
Anolytech’s solution has proven effective enough to be add- ed to fodder and in feeders. As a result, previous problems with feed fermentation in pipes and feed drop plugging have dis- appeared, leading to better fodder uptake, healthier pigs and more even litter.
– We used to clean the fodder tubs spraying high pressure water. This isn’t necessary anymore. Additionally, the strong smell between feeding and fodder fermentation causing jam is history.
Happy pigs is only one of the advantages
To Sörby Farm, the cooperation with Anolytech has brought several advantages beyond more alert pigs consuming more food. As an example, the farm has more time between litter thanks to faster growth shortening lead time.
– Time between litter used to be tight. We moved pigs on Fri- days, cleaned the premises during weekends and sprayed with high pressure water on Mondays, before the sows moved in the next day. Now, we have a whole week to do this before new sows arrive.
Certification builds trustworthiness
As Anolytech started back in 2005, there were many sceptical voices regarding it’s sustainable method for disinfecting water without using harmful chemicals. 16 years later, a commonly in- creased environmental awareness is paving the way for a game
changing shift towards disinfection based on Anolytech’s sus- tainable solution instead of using traditional chemicals.
AnoDes is used within different areas where fighting unwant- ed bacteria like Campylobacter, Cyanobacteria, Escherichia coli and Legionella pneumophila is needed. One important rea- son is that it’s very effective without being harmful to animals and humans.
The fact that Anolytech’s technique has been certified ac- cording to leading standards regarding hand and surface disin- fection, contributes to the increased demand from clients in new markets and segments.
