What is anodes?

Site-produced pH-optimized hypochlorous acid

Anolytech’s disinfection solution AnoDes is produced using only water, salt, and electricity, resulting in a unique pH-optimized hypochlorous acid with a powerful bactericidal effect. AnoDes, in small doses, eliminates bacteria, viruses, spores, mold, and fungi, and also stops the growth of biofilm in water systems.

The production takes place on-site at the user’s location, and since AnoDes does not contain any dangerous chemicals, the disinfection solution is both environmentally friendly and safe for humans and animals. Once AnoDes has been used up, the solution reverts to its components which are 99.5% water and 0.5% biodegradable material and can be discharged into the sewage system.

Areas of application

In operations such as animal husbandry, manufacturing, restaurants, hotels & spas, hydroponic cultivation and other food handling establishments, Anolytech’s system offers continuous protection and security by maintaining bacteria-free drinking and process water, thereby reducing the risk of spreading infection and costly production stoppages.

AnoDes can also be bottled for use in disinfecting surfaces and rooms, as well as for producing hand sanitizer. The finished solution is approved as hygienic hand sanitizer according to EN1500. It is very gentle and does not dry out the skin as alcohol-based hand sanitizer does

Why AnoDes is so effective

The carefully controlled pH level is what makes AnoDes such a powerful disinfectant. No other disinfectant solution on the market can control the pH value of the process with the same precision, which means that Anolytech can guarantee effective water disinfection regardless of the quality of the incoming serviceable water.

AnoDes works in part by attacking proteins in the microorganism cell membranes and destroys them so that the cell bursts and dies. Thanks to the direct mechanism of action, it also does not matter whether the bacteria are resistant or multi-resistant to antibiotics.

Circular process

The chemistry and technology behind AnoDes

AnoDes is produced by electrolysis, where the process involves the application of direct current with anode and cathode principle. Hypochlorous acid, which is a weak acid, is formed when chlorine is dissolved in water and cannot exist in pure form, but only as an aqueous solution.

Maximum effect is achieved when the solution maintains a neutral pH between 6 and 7. Anolytech uses a proprietary system where pH levels are controlled with extremely high accuracy (pH 6.5). This ensures a continuously high bactericidal effect while keeping the amount of salt in the solution at a low level.

Strong research support

There is strong research support for the use of “electrolysed” water to kill bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. Among other things, it has been shown to be effective against most common bacterial pathogens such as legionella, salmonella, E.coli, listeria, vibrio, staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, spore-forming bacteria and many common viruses (including norovirus) as well as fungi. Approved in the EU

AnoDes meets applicable European standards for disinfectants and is approved under Article 95 of the Biocidal Products Directive. The EU Expert Group for Technical Advice on Organic Production (EGTOP) also approves the use of electrolysed water in organic production where the disinfectant solution is produced on site the way AnoDes is. Anolytech’s system complies with the Swedish National Food Agency’s regulations (SLVFS 2001:30) on drinking water.
