Hand Disinfection from Swedish Anolytech Reduced Infection Risk during the Båstad Tennis Tournament

For the organizers of the “Båstad Tennis Tournament,” access to high-quality hand sanitizer was crucial for enabling meetings, socializing, and business in a safe manner. Anolytech’s disinfection of water without harmful chemicals solved the issues.

Arena Båstad AB manages and develops the classic annual tennis tournament at Båstad Tennis Stadium, where the center court was established as early as 1907. Together with the nearby Hotel Skansen, the Tennis Stadium is one of Europe’s most beautiful facilities and is often voted as the players’ favorite tournament. From 2020 to 2023, the tournament is known as the “Nordea Open.”

During the Nordea Open in Båstad 2021, Anolytech provided disinfectants for the tournament’s staff. One reason is that the company was the first to get an alcohol-free hand sanitizer certified in Sweden according to the EU standard EN 1500, thus meeting the stringent quality requirements of the tour organizations WTA and ATP.

Hand Disinfection for Safer Meetings

The pandemic limited the number of visitors to 1,300 per day during the 13 days of the men’s and women’s tournaments, compared to a total of over 60,000 the previous year. At the same time, managing to minimize the infection risk in line with the Public Health Agency’s recommendations was a priority for the organizing Båstad Arena:

“Båstad Tennis is a fantastic opportunity for tennis enthusiasts to meet, socialize, and do business. For us as organizers, it was particularly important in 2021 to contribute to making these meetings happen in a way that minimized the infection risk. The availability of high-quality hand sanitizer from Anolytech played a significant role in this,” says Sara Bergh, operations manager at Arena Båstad.

Anolytech provided AnoDes in both pocket-sized packaging and as refills for the tournament staff. The product was available during transportation and in other contexts where people moved around.

Certification Builds Credibility

When Anolytech started its operations in 2005, many were skeptical of the company’s new environmentally friendly method for disinfecting water with hypochlorous acid without harmful chemicals. Today, a generally increasing environmental awareness paves the way for a shift in technology from chemical-based to Anolytech’s environmentally friendly disinfection.

The environmental friendliness is a result of AnoDes being a unique pH-optimized hypochlorous acid made from only water, salt, and electricity, which kills bacteria, viruses, mold, fungi, and spores through alcohol-free disinfection of water, hands, and surfaces.

AnoDes is used in several areas where there is a need to combat unwanted bacteria such as Campylobacter, cyanobacteria, coliform bacteria (E. coli), and Legionella, among others, because it is highly effective without being harmful to humans and animals.

The fact that the technology is certified according to leading standards for hand and surface disinfection and approved according to the Biocidal Products Regulation contributes to increasing interest from customers outside the agricultural sector, focusing on properties, healthcare, education, and industry.
