The cultivation company Nyttogrönt’s problem with bacteria made the roots on their organic sprouts rotted. The solution was Swedish Anolytechs environmentally friendly systems for disinfection of water without harmful chemicals.
Nyttogrönt in Munka-Ljungby, Scania, cultivate food indoors all year round, with the goal of producing the best sprouts and shoots in Scandinavia.
The fact that the cultivation is hydroponic means that they grow in water instead of soil, which means that the requirements for bacteria-free water are very high. At the same time, the business is certified according to both Krav and the Swedish Seal, and environmental awareness is therefore high.
Clean water important to outperform competition
Nyttogrönt is well on its way to achieve the goal of becoming a leader in Scandinavia in its field. This required effective management of a previous problem with roots of the sprouts rotting and turning brown. The solution was a new Swedish system that disinfects water without environmentally hazardous chemicals.
– We spent several years testing different methods to remove bacteria in the water causing the roots of the sprouts to rot, but never really succeeded. By chance, I came across a new Swedish method that suited our environmental profile and now that problem is out of the world. Inparallel with handling ther problem, we extended the shelf life by 30 percent and became more competitive, says Kenneth Bendroth, founder and CEO of Nyttogrönt.
More benefits than longer durability
For Nyttogrönt, the collaboration with Anolytech has brought other benefits in addition to a longer shelf life and healthier roots. Among other things, the film that was previously on the floor in the cultivation hall and in water nozzles for irrigation is gone, the number of small flies in the cultivation has decreased and the sprouts both grow better and look greener and fresher.
With fresh and healthy roots, business opportunities open up for Nyttogrönt, where the roots can be resold and used instead of being thrown away as they were before. Nyttogrönt has therefore decided to invest in two more new systems from Anolytech.
Certification builds trustworthiness
As Anolytech started back in 2005, there were many sceptical voices regarding it’s sustainable method for disinfecting water without using harmful chemicals. 16 years later, a commonly increased environmental awareness is paving the way for a game changing shift towards disinfection based on Anolytech’s sustainable solution instead of using traditional chemicals.
AnoDes is used within different areas where fighting unwanted bacteria like Campylobacter, Cyanobacteria, Escherichia coli and Legionella pneumophila is needed. One important reason is that it’s very effective without being harmful to animals and humans.
The fact that Anolytech’s technique has been certified according to leading standards regarding hand and surface disinfection, contributes to the increased demand from clients in new markets and segments.
